Shakti Peethas (Places of Strength), the symbols of superme power of the goddess are situated throughout the Indian Subcontinent.
The historical facts therebehind are as follows: In the Sata Yuga, king Daksha performed a Yagya. Since his daughter Sati had married
Lord Shiva against his wishes, he didn't invited Shiva and Sati. She found Shiva and herself insulted therefore she sacrificed
herself by jumping into pyre. When Shiva heard thereabout he rushed to the place and began to dance (Tandav Nritya) carrying her body.
The world was terrorized thereby. Therefore Lord Vishnu, at the request of other gods severed Sati's body into several pieces with
the Sudarshan Chakra. The places where the pieces fell were known as Shaki Peethas.
